SAVE BISHOPS MEADOWS

DECEMBER 2009 UPDATE**

Jeremy welcomes Sir Ray’s efforts to save Bishops Meadows

South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt has written to Sir Ray Tindle to thank him for his support in saving the Bishops Meadows in Farnham.  Sir Ray has stepped in and covered the costs of the Meadow for the next two years to help the Bishops Meadow Trust continue to raise the money for the town to buy the land.

Jeremy said: “I am so grateful to Sir Ray for stepping in and supporting the people of Farnham by providing protection for a period of up to two years in order that the Bishops Meadow Trust can continue to gather pledges.  This land is extremely important to Farnham residents and I am delighted that through Sir Ray’s generosity we are now able to secure its future and protect it for years to come.  I would really urge anyone who has yet to make a pledge to do so soon.

BACKGROUND

Bishops meadows in Farnham, is currently up for sale.  There has been concern that the land could be used as SANGS and as such a local solicitor has set up the Bishops Meadow Trust with a view to purchasing the land for the people of Farnham.  At a packed public meeting on the issue in St Andrew’s Church on Wednesday 18 November, the consensus seemed to be that residents wanted the land protected indefinitely and the way forward was for the town to club together and make a bid for the land. Jeremy is fully behind this plan.
