Milford Hospital
Local NHS services in Surrey were under review. The Royal Surrey and Milford were threatened with closure but in August the PCT announced that Milford would be awarded a £1 million refurbishment and would be used as the specialist rehabilitation unit for the Royal Surrey. This was confirmed by the PCT in January 2010.
In December, following on from the successful campaign to save the Hospital, The Royal Surrey was successful in its bid for Foundation Trust Status.
January 2010 - Haslemere Hospital:
There has been concern for some time that Surrey PCT were planning to close community hospitals in Surrey and the closure of 14 beds in Godwin ward at Haslemere has reaffirmed these fears. The beds were closed over Christmas and it has been admitted that this is for financial reasons with no plans to reopen them this financial year. The League of Friends of Haslemere Hospital is deeply concerned and demanding answers from the PCT. They wish to see Surrey NHS publicly commit to full reopening of the beds in Haslemere as soon as possible and by 31st March at the latest. Jeremy and Anne Milton MP for Guildford are meeting with Chris Butler, Chief Executive of the PCT to question him directly about the recent closures and what this means for community hospitals in Surrey.
