Jeremy is asking Royal Mail to carefully consider where they will relocate the post office in Godalming High Street. The current site inside Waterstones in the town is contracted until August. After that the shop does not want to retain the service and new premises will need to be found. However, Jeremy is keen to ensure these new premises are not somewhere out of town such as the soon to be enlarged Sainsbury’s store. No decisions have been made yet but an interested party is in negotiations with the Royal Mail to make a bid for the post office store and they are keen to hear from other interested parties. Jeremy is launching a petition on his website http://www.jeremyhunt.org/godalmingpostoffice.aspx to show support for the Post Office to remain on the High Street.
Jeremy says: “Local Post Offices were under severe threat a few years ago and we campaigned to protect them in South West Surrey. Just as all that becomes a distant memory we find ourselves faced with another battle in Godalming. Although no decision has been made about the new location it is important that we do not sit and wait for the Royal Mail to accept an offer from a site out of town. I am launching a campaign to ensure the Royal Mail make the right decision and seek new premises on the High Street. You can show your support by signing the petition on my website to ‘Keep the Post Office on Godalming High Street”.
